This change not only modernizes the kitchen, but also adds visual interest and texture to the space. Additionally, the use of different finishes on the cabinets and island creates a dynamic contrast that elevates the overall design. Statement lighting fixtures from Hudson Valley Lighting added a touch of elegance. To top it all off, quartz countertops and a matching backsplash brought everything together seamlessly.
No Home Renovation is Complete without a Family Room Upgrade
Next on the list was the family room, where the fireplace and surrounding cabinetry were in desperate need of an upgrade. The original bookcases and cabinets were oversized and out of scale with the modest fireplace. The solution? Redesigning the fireplace to give it more depth and focus, using large format tiles and installing a new gas fireplace.
We chose custom upholstered furniture to revitalize the family room and breakfast nook. We also added swivel chairs for versatility, and we fulfilled Tom’s one request for a new leather reclining chair with style. The result was a cozy yet sophisticated space perfect for relaxation and entertaining.
The Powder Room Transformation
The powder room underwent a significant transformation as well. Originally a full bath, the shower was sacrificed to make room for Tom’s impressive wine collection, which now resides in a custom-built glass wine room by Don’s Mobile Glass.
The once full bath was turned into a chic powder room, complete with a modern vanity featuring a chunky quartz countertop. Lively floral wallpaper adds a splash of personality, and the hardwood floor from the kitchen are carried through to maintain a cohesive look.

In our kitchen, we extended the cabinets all the way to the ceiling and incorporated glass doors for the top cabinets, allowing us to showcase Maureen’s beautiful pottery collection. We also decided to carry over the existing hardwood flooring into the kitchen, but made sure to feather in new boards. We then refinished them with a lighter color to eliminate any unwanted orange tones.
In the family room, we retrofitted the doors on the base cabinets with metal screens, giving it a touch of industrial chic. We also installed floating shelves and upper cabinets with glass doors in the walk-up bar area by opening one of the walls, making it more spacious. Additionally, we added an ice maker, making this space perfect for hosting guests.
