I received an award from the American Society of Interior Designers and Las Vegas Design Center for my Residential Kitchen Remodel. I thought I would tell you all about it, because if you are planning on remodeling your kitchen in 2018, you need to start planning right now. That’s right – perfect remodels usually begin over a year in advance!
Remodeling Your Kitchen (That Wins Awards)
Our award winning kitchen remodel was for an aspiring home chef who requires a new kitchen to accommodate his yummy hobby in his retirement. The original small kitchen subsisted with outdated appliances, ill-advised cabinet resurfacing, a peninsula that cut off the traffic flow and a wide corridor that misused available space.
Remodeling Your Kitchen (To Fit Your Style)
His new kitchen design must incorporate robust appliances, open into a narrow family room, have a large island, durable flooring, easy to clean surfaces and a transitional style.
The new design removes the peninsula and relocates the refrigerator to the adjacent wall, allowing for a large island with better traffic flow all around the kitchen. Custom cabinetry painted gray and glazed with a licorice patina is unique. The door style is transitional, but still appeals to their traditional tendencies. The large refrigerator is outfitted with cabinetry panels, further making the line of sight open and clean . The large stainless range is highlighted with a cabinetry hood, making the range and hood the focal point of the kitchen.
Remodeling Your Kitchen (With Elements Selected Just for You)
Linear glass and stone tiles with coordinating mosaic tiles adorn the backsplash. Under cabinets lighting and switching leaves the gorgeous backsplash unimpeded. Atop the custom cabinetry is solid surface quartz with a waterfall treatment on each side of the island and within the island seating area.
Remodeling Your Kitchen (Light It Up)
The homeowner is very particular about the lighting and the design incorporates under cabinet lighting, in cabinet lighting, pendants, chandeliers (all on dimmers), and a sky-light (existing) to provide ample layers of light during the day and at night. Luxury vinyl planks on the floor are a good alternative to ceramic wood-look tiles as they are quieter and softer, and easier to maintain.
The new kitchen is elegant and ultra-chic with dark cabinets and white countertops. The location of the island across from the central cooking hub makes it the ideal entertaining venue for our next top chef.
Remodeling Your Kitchen (The Pleasure is All Mine)
Receiving a big award for this project was a big honor and totally took me by surprise. The competition was steep with many entrants from the Western United States. When I got the call I thought it was a prank call! The evening was fun with the ceremony presented by top designers Barclay Butera and Christopher Kennedy. The gala afterwards involved a lot of hand shaking with many more celebrity designers and I was on cloud nine.
I am so proud of my little design firm. We’ve come a long way and I have the best team of designers, contractors, and architectures to make your kitchen remodel an award winning kitchen that you and your friends will be raving about for many years to come.
