Our client, a young computer engineer with an eclectic streak, bought a 1980s home on the river in Lodi, complete with honey oak everything and a pink tile fireplace. She loves yellow. Our job was to build a home as playful as she is without losing sophistication, so we balanced her signature yellow with classic black and white.
New flooring, a new stair railing, and a runner updated the staircase, and then we hung a zebra on the wall, posed as if it’s crashing through it. Some clients want subtle. She didn’t.
The pink tile fireplace surround gave way to sleek metallic large-format tile. In the dining room, the spaceship-era ceiling fan came down and an iron chandelier dripping with droplets went up, tying into black iron accents running through the entry and kitchen.
We moved the kitchen entrance away from the slider to fix circulation, then hung an iron and glass door that keeps kids and pets corralled during parties. Butterscotch cabinets pop against white hexagon deco tile, anchored by an oversized Thermador range. New shades block the heat but keep the river view.
A custom hidden TV cabinet slides open behind a panel that reads as artwork, and every seat faces the river.
