One cook in this household is the chef, the other is the baker, and their dark, cramped kitchen couldn’t hold them both at once. They wanted a bright, open kitchen where two people could work side by side, with room for the grandkids to help.
We removed the old peninsula and replaced it with an island with seating and its own prep sink, sized for little hands helping with cookie dough. Four new windows now flood the room with light and give you something worth seeing when you walk in from the entry. We also widened the opening to the living and dining rooms while keeping the original archway.
The island got custom wood shaker cabinetry matching the family room; the perimeter got a custom paint color halfway between white and gray. Counters, backsplash, and integrated sinks are all Corian, the same material the clients loved in their previous home. A Dacor gas rangetop under a custom Stoll Industries stainless hood handles the chef’s side, and a stacked LG double oven and microwave sits at a comfortable height, because both clients are tall.
An underused closet at the garage entry became a drop zone with broom and linen storage, backing up the existing walk-in pantry.
