Returning clients came to us with a request we loved: swap their formal rooms. The stuffy spaces they never used would become a glamorous bar and lounge and a dining room that could seat 20 for dinner and hold 50 for family celebrations.
Out went the carpet, replaced with hardwood matching the rest of the home. In went a walk-up wet bar with twin wine chillers holding 150 bottles, open shelving for the liquor collection, and a drawer freezer with an ice maker. The palette is gold, black, green, and deep wood: ripe olive and walnut cabinetry, moody wallpaper, plaid lounge chairs, a Calacatta Silk porcelain counter, and a gold and black chandelier carrying 18 candelabra lamps.
A Phillip Jeffries wall mural sets the stage for the showpiece: a custom 214-inch smoke walnut table with three leaves and a polished brass extension base, ringed by 12 butterscotch gold chairs with brass sabots. A framed mirrored TV disappears into the wall until game day.
A round marble-top table on a gold leaf fluted base, an updated candlestick chandelier, and two things we wouldn’t touch: the clients’ commissioned painting of their chestnut orchard driveway and the heirloom grandfather clock.
