A creative couple with a serious art collection was living inside a sea of gray walls. Their artwork had personality; the house didn’t. Our job was to let the art lead and build the rooms around it.
Fresh paint brightened the room, and their new leather sofas got company: brass vases, a stone cocktail table that pivots, and a vibrant wool rug pulling colors straight from their paintings. A terracotta silk cornice runs over the slider wall of windows, with roller shades tucked behind for nighttime privacy.
We relocated one of their favorite pieces here and matched its blues in glass vases and a new rug. The dining table shows off natural cathedral ash grain, ringed by curved-back chairs finished with brass sabots.
Tall ceilings called for scale: a custom seven-foot upholstered headboard, white pleated drapery running floor to ceiling, and Theodore Alexander case pieces in dark rubbed bronze. Blue Roman shades on every window help the couple sleep late on weekends.
Dark green and black geometric wallpaper, a caramel leather mirror, brass fixtures, and an abstract ceiling-mount chandelier. We kept the existing pedestal sink and toilet, proof you don’t have to gut a room to transform it.
