We first met Don and Amy when they came to our showroom shortly after our grand opening. Amy told on Don when she said he religiously followed my social media and blog (I like it when I have a stalker!). This is a big compliment because Don is an architect and he wanted us to help with his own remodel.
Amy and Don had lots of ideas but were having difficulty figuring out what changes to make and how to pull it together. This is a common problem for folks because, as we live in our spaces for many years, our minds won’t let us imagine it any other way. We as designers, on the other hand, walk into a home and immediately see what can, can’t, and should be done.
After our initial consultation, I knew exactly what I wanted to do and was very excited when Don and Amy went to the next phase and engaged us to do a Design Concept for their home.
The existing kitchen needed all new cabinetry, appliances, fixtures, and countertops. To stay within budget, we decided to tweak the footprint slightly by taking out the angle and reconfiguring the island. By leaving the appliances and plumbing in the same locations (or as close to as possible), we were able to spend money on other things, such as ceiling-height cabinetry, quartz countertops, an apron sink, and luxury appliances.
We asked all our clients to create an inspiration folder for their project. Don and Amy selected many moody kitchens. (Yay, no more white!) I knew from the beginning I wanted to use this deco tile from Tile Bar for the back splash. The following images show the final results of our clients’ 1980s kitchen makeover.
